Baldwin City, Kan. – Saturday afternoon the Wildcats took on the #14 ranked Eagles of Central Methodist. The Eagles came into the match with a 10-0 record in conference play and continued their 14-game win streak defeating Baker in three sets, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21.
In the first set, the Wildcats started the match with a 10-6 lead. Following a CMU timeout, both teams battled point for point until the Eagles took the lead and went on 5-0 run to win the set, 25-20.
Set two was another battle until a 6-0 run by the Eagles pushed their lead to, 14-8. The Cats’ were unable to go on a run on their own to cut the lead, resulting in a 25-18 win for CMU.
The Wildcats came out firing in the first set, taking an early lead, 11-4. Following an 8-2 stretch, CMU fought back to even the set. The two teams went back and fourth but the Cats’ could not produce enough offense to get the victory as the #14 Eagles went on to win, 25-21.
“We played the best defensive match we have all year”, Head Coach Matt Windle commented, “Proud of how we responded to a new defensive scheme. We had a defensive focus and we made them earn every point”.
The Wildcat defense was led by Makaila Garcia as she had four blocks in the match. While Nicole Johnson led the match with 17 digs. Offensively, Taylor Bell led the Wildcats with 10 kills as Taylor Kile followed with six kills of here own.
“We have some time now to rest, get healthy and focus on our next several opponents”, Coach Windle concluded. As Wildcats will get a week of rest and are back in action Friday, October 11th, as they will take on Graceland at 7:30 p.m. in Lamoni, IA.
