FAYETTE, Mo. – With four straight wins coming into Saturday, the No. 20 Baker football team did not slow up as they kept rolling, defeating Central Methodist, 41-14.

As a team, the Wildcats picked up a total of 436 yards on offense while holding CMU to 304 yards. JD Woods led the ground attack for the Wildcats, picking up 179 yards on 23 carries, while finding the endzone three times. Marco Aguinaga went 11-for-17 through the air for 138 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Nate Pauly, three times for 57 yards.

Defensively, Sam Skwarlo continued to add to his team lead in tackles as he picked up nine on the day. Baker picked up four sacks on the afternoon with 1.5 coming from Jake Zieler, one coming from Mosi Tongafoa, one coming from Joshua Moore and a half sack coming from Brennen Kellogg. Grant Elston also had the team’s only interception on the day, while also picking up two tackles for loss.

After both teams punted to start the game, the Wildcat offense buckled down on their second drive, going 77 yards in seven plays, capped off by a three-yard touchdown run from JD Woods to give Baker the early, 7-0 lead.

On the very next drive, the Eagles were able to put together a strong 13-play drive that took 5:38 off the clock and tied the game at seven with 3:24 left in the first half.

Baker then came back with a long 10-play drive of their own, as Sam Huckabee got open from five yards out to give Baker the lead once again, 14-7. With 9:20 left in the second quarter, Grant Elston came down with an interception, giving Baker the ball on Central Methodist’s 26 yard-line.

After a three-yard gain on first down, JD Woods broke free once again for a touchdown, this time from 23 yards out to extend Baker’s lead to 21-7.

Before the end of the half, Nigil Graves-Houston was able to break off a 19-yard touchdown run of his own, giving Baker a 28-7 lead heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Wildcats did not let off the gas as they went 63 yards on seven plays, while JD Woods picked up his third rushing touchdown of the afternoon, quickly pushing the lead to 35-7.

Central Methodist then picked up their second touchdown of the afternoon with 6:12 left in the quarter, but that is all they would get. With 1:48 left in the third quarter, Aguinaga found Pauly from 44 yards out to give the Wildcats one more score. After the extra point was blocked, neither team scored for the rest of the game as Baker went on to win, 41-14.

The No. 20 Wildcats are now 7-2 overall on the season and remain perfect in Heart of America South Division play at 3-0. They will now be at home for the rest of the regular season, hosting No. 13 Benedictine on Saturday, Nov. 9, and hosting No. 9 Evangel on Saturday, Nov. 16.
