Wildcats Advance to the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship Sweet Sixteen After Defeating Tennessee Wesleyan, 4-0

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Saturday night the Baker men’s soccer team defeated No. 15 Tennessee Wesleyan, 4-0. The ‘Cats came into the game winning 5 of their last 6 matches and most recently defeating Eastern Oregon, 2-0, for a chance to play for a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
Both teams came out attacking the net but Baker scored first in the 22nd minute on a long pass from Jordan Alonge to Lucas Jacobs who found a streaking Luke Sutter to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. The score remained going into the half, even with the Bulldogs out shooting the ‘Cats, 4-2.
The Wildcats turned up the intensity in the second half. In the 52nd minute, a cross from Luke Sutter found the head of Jordan Alonge to extend the lead to, 2-0. Just 5 minutes later, a pass from Jordan Lake to Steeve Pouna made the score 3-0.
With the game nearly put away, Lucas Jacobs beat Tennessee Wesleyan’s keeper on a one on one break away in the 78th minute to secure the victory.
“I’m so proud of how this team performed after playing back to back nights”, Head coach Nate Houser said after the game. “Now we have to make sure that we bring this when we go back to California”.
The Wildcats are going to the Sweet Sixteen of the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championships for the 5th time in 7 years.
The Wildcats are now 13-6-3 on the season. Next up for the ‘Cats, the Sweet Sixteen matches which are scheduled to be played December 2nd at OC Great Park Soccer Stadium in Irvine, CA.
