BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – On Tuesday night the Baker men’s basketball team hosted MidAmerica Nazarene in their home conference opener.
The Wildcats came out strong and took an early lead. With the score 19-19 and 6:47 to go in the first half, MidAmerica went on a 15-0 run to end the half leading, 34-19.
Although the Wildcats were down, they were not out. With 10:40 to go in the second half, Baker went on their own run, 20-4, to get within five points of the Pioneers. By then, only 1:04 remained on the clock and it was too little to late for the Wildcats as they fell to MNU, 66-56.
“We came out and got off to a good start and did something that we have been working on well”, head coach Sean Dooley commented after the game. “We have been inconsistent and haven’t been able to string multiple good games together yet… We just have to make sure going forward that we are ready to compete for 40 minutes every night”.
Kobe Buffalomeat led Baker with 15 points going 7-13 from the field and sank his only three-point attempt. Jalen Patterson went 5-9 from the field finishing with 14 points and five assists. Both Michael Brooks and Brett Elifritz finished with six points in the defeat.
The Baker men’s basketball team is now 4-5 on the season and 2-2 in Heart of America play. Next up, the ‘Cats will travel to Evangel to take on the 4-4 Crusaders, December 2nd at 7:30 p.m.
