SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Baker men’s basketball team dropped a tough one on Monday, falling to Evangel, 77-69.
Brandon Clifford led the way for the Wildcats scoring 23 points on the night. Xaver Elam and Braden Wiggs were the only other Wildcats to reach double figures in the game, scoring 11 points and 10 points respectively.
Throughout the first 10 minutes of the game, neither team could find a way to grab any sort of lead. In the next five minutes, Evangel was able to start to pull away, taking an 11-point lead with 5:12 left to play in the first half.
The Crusaders would extend their lead to 12 with just over a minute left in the half, but Baker would cut the lead to nine heading into halftime, 39-30.
It took almost three minutes for the Wildcats to score in the second half, as the Crusaders pushed their lead to 17 points. Baker would not go down without a fight, cutting the lead to one on a three-pointer from Colby Bullock.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats could not tie the game or take the lead as Evangel held on to defeat Baker, 84-77.
With the loss, the Wildcats are now 4-6 on the season and 2-3 in Heart of America play. They will be back in action on December 5, when they host No. 25 Peru State inside the Collins Center at 7:30 p.m.
